Known as the oldest higher education institution in South Korea, Korea University is one of the largest and most selective universities in Korea. Since its establishment in 1905, Korea University provides a top quality educational experience for its students, with a wide variety of courses taught in English in all professional fields offered to both local and international students. KU excels in their business courses in the Business School and is the only and first business school in the country to have acquired both the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation. Korea University is Korea's top ranked University. Known as the "Ivy League" private university in the country, KU is a world-class institution featuring a dynamic educational environment, beautiful and conveniently located campus, and top-quality student facilities. Students have access to tutoring, computers, cinemas, a CDL Theater, a Music Center and both indoor gyms and outdoor sports fields at the university. Students may also participate in over 150 clubs and organizations available through the Student Club Association.
In 2014, Korea University ranked 18th in Asia and 6th in South Korea according to QS Asia University Rankings. It prides itself not only in being a progressive and globally conscious institution, but also one that plays a role in preserving and developing Korea's unique culture.
Seoul (population 10,421,782) is both the largest city and capital of South Korea. It enjoys a central location within East Asia with China on its west and Japan to its east. Students will explore the natural beauty of the country along with its royal palaces, Buddhist temples, and sleek skyscrapers.
Students participating in semester programs at Korea University will stay in one of three Korea University Dormitories: CJ International House, Anam Global House and Anam Hall 2, based on availability and placements. During summer programs at Korea Univeristy, Frontier House dormitory will be available for students. ISA students will live with other local Korean students and international students. Shared kitchens are available in the dorms for students to cook.
Each course a student takes abroad, regardless of the grade received or how course credit counts toward degree requirements, must:
Be approved via the credit evaluation process (non-language courses, only); students are strongly encouraged to do this priorto submitting their applications.
Transfer back to the student’s Ohio State record.
Be completed for graded Ohio State credit. This grade will be factored into the student’s GPA.
Completion of the credit evaluation process does not guarantee the availability of the course abroad. Students are encouraged to have multiple back-up courses approved. Students who cancel their participation for failure to secure approval for desired course work will be subject to the cancellation policy.
Admitted participants are required to register themselves in the temporary study abroad placeholder course, ARTSSCI 5797. Further instructions will be provided upon admission to the program.
With 40% of the courses at Korea University are taught in English, students can choose from a wide variety of classes in Art & Design, Education, Engineering, Information & Communication, Journalism & Mass Communication, Liberal Arts, Political Science, Technology, etc., when participating this semester program. Korea University's Business School is the first business school accredited both by AACSB & EQUIS in Korea. Please visit ISA for course listings and descriptions. Specific Ohio State course equivalences and credits will be determined by the appropriate Ohio State academic departments. All students taking language courses will be required to take a language placement test upon their return to Ohio State in order to establish course equivalencies and proper placement for continued language instruction.
Students are required to obtain approval from Ohio State before starting an ISA application. In order to be eligible to apply for this program, students must be sophomore rank, maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA, and meet OIA's General Eligibility Requirements and Conditions for Participation. All students will also be required to participate in on-campus pre-departure orientations organized by the Office of International Affairs.
Applicants are required to submit TWO applications:
1. OIA education abroad application (start at the "Apply Now" at the bottom or top of this page);
2. ISA application.
IMPORTANT: Both applications must be submitted by the Ohio State application deadline.
Passports are required for every Ohio State study abroad program. For many study abroad destinations, passport information is required to apply for an entry visa (as early as 6 months prior to departure). For information about applying for a passport, go to travel.state.gov.
Students will pay the ISA program fee (minus a $200 discount given to OSU students) and GeoBlue international insurance fee. A waiver of tuition for Ohio State students that participate on university-approved third party provider or direct enroll programming is in effect until June 30, 2019. The ISA program fees include in-country tuition, lodging, most meals, on-site orientation, some excursions and airport transfer. Airfare, books and supplies, local transportation, personal expenses and independent travel are not included in the program fee.
If students withdraw or become ineligible any time 11 days after the acceptance notification from OSU, they will be held responsible for a $200 cancellation fee. Please refer to OIA's Cancellation Policy.
Students who receive or are eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant are encouraged to apply for the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program. This program is Gilman eligible. Interested students should first verify their existing award package and make an appointment with Student Financial Aid as needed. After researching the scholarship, students wishing to apply for the Gilman International Scholarship should be in touch with the listed education abroad coordinator to begin working on a competitive application.
