London Theatre tab 1

This is a four week program in British theatre, with a required preparatory May term course. Emphasis is placed on the dynamic theatre scene in London and the multicultural dimension of theatre practice in Britain today. Students attend a play almost every day of the program in a wide variety of styles and in a wide variety of venues. These venues include the Royal National Theatre, the Almeida, the Old Vic, the Young Vic, the Tricycle Theatre, and Shakespeare's Globe, among others. In addition, a side trip will be made to Stratford-Upon-Avon for the Royal Shakespeare Company. The preparatory May semester course, as well as the in-country course will be taught by faculty in the OSU Department of Theatre in conjunction with a range of special guest artists. In London, mornings will be devoted to class meetings; afternoons will be held open for independent exploration and rehearsals.

This program takes place in London, England.


Accommodations

Students will be housed in shared apartments at Conway Hall on Waterloo Road. Apartments are complete with weekly linen service, fully stocked kitchen, on-site laundry facility, and WiFi.

Academics

 

Courses and Credit London Theatre tab 2

Undergraduate and graduate students are required to enroll in Theatre 5731 during May term (2 credits) for the pre-departure preparatory course. Gradates will enroll in Theatre 8798.02 (2 credits) during the summer. Undergraduates will enroll in Theatre 5798.02 (3 credits) during the summer, and will also have the option of enrolling in Theatre 2367.01 (3 credits).
 

Eligibility

Students must have at least Sophomore rank; have taken English 1110 and one previous theatre course (Theatre 5731 offered May session) and submit a Letter of recommendation in order to be eligible to apply for this program. Students must also meet OIA's General Eligibility Requirements and Conditions for Participation. All students will also be required to participate in on-campus pre-departure orientations organized by the Office of International Affairs.

Please note that upon application, a $150 application fee will be assessed. The application fee will be refunded only if the applicant is not accepted or a written request to withdraw the application is submitted prior to the application deadline.
 

Passports

Passports are required for every Ohio State education abroad program. For many destinations, passport information is required to apply for an entry visa early as 6 months prior to departure. For information about apply for a passport, go to travel.state.gov.
 

Financial

Students are responsible for paying The Ohio State University tuition plus a $TBD program fee. The program fee includes room, some group meals, program excursions and field trips, local transportation pass, theatre tickets and supplemental insurance. It does not cover airfare, breakfasts, most lunches and dinners, and personal expenses.

If students withdraw or become ineligible any time eleven days after the acceptance notification, they will be held responsible for a cancellation fee. Please refer to OIA's Cancellation Policy.


Scholarships

Student should begin researching funding opportunities before they have been accepted into a study abroad program. Grants and Scholarship deadlines may occur before the study abroad program application deadline.

If a students withdraw or become ineligible any time 11 days after the acceptance notification, they will be held responsible for a cancellation fee. Please refer to OIA's Cancellation Policy.

Students who receive or are eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant are encouraged to apply for the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program. This program is Gilman eligible. Interested students should first verify their existing award package and make an appointment with Student Financial Aid as needed.  After researching the scholarship, students wishing to apply for the Gilman International Scholarship should be in touch with the listed education abroad coordinator to begin working on a competitive application.
