The spring break study abroad program (March 7-17, 2019) to Isle of Jersey, UK, will expose students to applications of Midwifery practice outside of the United States. As a result of completing the program, students will gain exposure to a healthcare system different to that of the United States; learn the healthcare needs of people in a foreign country; and strengthen their ability to communicate and care for patients from a different culture.

Students will stay in centrally located 3-4 star, shared accommodations. Students will be responsible for securing their own accommodation with guidance from the Office of International Affairs regarding a selected hotel.

Courses and Credit
You will receive three hours of Nursing 5798 for 3 credit hours for Spring Semester 2018 (1 credit for the online pre-departure course; 2 credits for the in country experience).
Students who participate in this program can expect to (1) examine how history, conflict and socio-political systems impact the health care system, (2) learn about the importance of the role of the nurse in educating patients, family members and lay health care workers, (3) learn about the importance of cultural awareness and humility as it relates to their practice, and (4) gain experience in self-examination and self-critique through reflection.
All students must obtain an academic recommendation from a College of Nursing faculty.
All students enrolled in nurse-midwifery clinical practicums are eligible to apply for this program.
Students must also meet OIA's General Eligibility Requirements and Conditions for Participation. All students will also be required to participate in the related course and on campus pre-departure orientations organized by the Office of International Affairs.
Please note that upon application, a $150 application fee will be assessed. The application fee will be refunded only if the applicant is not accepted or a written request to withdraw the application is submitted prior to the application deadline.
The College of Nursing has set the departure date for this program as Thursday, March 7, 2019, as this is prior to the official start of spring break, and could potentially interfere with on campus academic coursework and class attendance, students must get permission from instructors prior to committing to the program.
Passports are required for every Ohio State education abroad program. For many destinations, passport information is required to apply for an entry visa early as 6 months prior to departure. For information about apply for a passport, go to travel.state.gov.
You are responsible for paying The Ohio State University tuition plus $17, the cost of international travel insurance. It does not include, international airfare, in country accommodation, in country transportation, airport transfers, personal expenses, all meals, visa fees (if applicable) or any other fees associated with participation.
The College of Nursing will be providing a minimum of a $300 subsidy to offset the program costs for all College of Nursing students who are accepted into the program.
If students withdraw or become ineligible any time eleven days after the acceptance notification, they will be held responsible for a cancellation fee. Please refer to OIA's Cancellation Policy.
Student should begin researching funding opportunities before they have been accepted into a study abroad program. Grants and Scholarship deadlines may occur before the study abroad program application deadline.
